GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Police say a man who drove erratically and then crashed into a building sustained a gunshot wound to his chest.
The 23-year-old man died on Sunday December 6. His name has not been released. He is the 35th homicide victim in Grand Rapids this year.
Police spotted the victim driving erratically around 9 p.m. on Burton Street and South Division Avenue. The vehicle then crashed into a building just west of the intersection.
When the police contacted the driver, they saw that he had been shot in the chest. Police took action to save lives before the victim was taken by ambulance to Mercy Health Saint Mary Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
At the time of the accident, police had received reports of gunfire near Burton Street SE and Collins Avenue, Sgt. Says John Wittkowski.
No arrests were made.
An autopsy will be performed.
