ECC authorizes import of 175,000 tonnes of wheat

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister of Economic Affairs Omar Ayub Khan on Wednesday chaired a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet here in Islamabad, ARY News reported.

The ECC meeting approved the summary presented by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research for the purchase of 175,000 tonnes of wheat imported by the World Food Program (WFP) from the PASSCO stockpile for the Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The meeting also approved the summary presented by the Poverty Reduction and Social Security Division for the inclusion of beneficiaries of the Ehsaas Kafalat program.

These beneficiaries are offered to receive a one-time emergency cash assistance of Rs. 12,000 / – per beneficiary on a first come, first served basis.

The ECC also approved the summaries submitted by the Ministry of Industry and Production on the contractual obligations of the heavy electric complex (HEC); Provision of an untargeted grant for November and December 2021 as part of the PM’s back-up plan; Exemption from duties and taxes for the uninterrupted supply of oxygen in the country for medical purposes.

Previously, Mr. Shaukat Tarin, advisor to the Prime Minister in charge of finance and revenue, chaired a meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the ECC.


The TAC reviewed the summaries in detail and offered their recommendation for consideration by the Economic Coordination Committee.

The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Finance and Revenue, Mr. Shaukat Tarin, Federal Minister of National Food Security and Research, Syed Fakhar Imam, Federal Minister of Planning, Development and Initiatives Special Specials, Mr. Asad Umar, Federal Minister of Industry and Production Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar, Federal Minister of Energy Mr. Hammad Azhar, Federal Minister of Privatization Muhammad Mian Soomro, SAPM on Poverty Reduction Dr Sania Nishtar , relevant federal secretaries and other senior officials.
